Eco-friendly Hydrogen Bus No. 370 Runs Through Seoul Downtown
Operation All Day with 30kg Hydrogen Refueling Once... Seoul City to Supply 1,000 Units by 2025
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] An eco-friendly hydrogen bus that emits no pollutants and even purifies fine dust is running through downtown Seoul.
On the 15th, Seoul City announced that it deployed one eco-friendly hydrogen bus on route 370 operated by Daewon Passenger Transport, and will add three more buses on the 22nd.
This bus operates on a route starting from Gangdong Public Garage in Sangil-dong, Gangdong-gu, passing through Gangdong Station, Gunja Station, Sinseol-dong Station, and Jongno. The route includes a green transportation zone. As of last year, an average of 27,000 people use this route daily, so many citizens are expected to experience the convenience of the hydrogen bus.
The hydrogen bus takes in oxygen containing fine dust from the air while driving, combines it with hydrogen, and emits only clean water with 99.9% of pollutants removed. In contrast, it does not emit pollutants such as nitrogen oxides or greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, earning it the reputation as the most perfect eco-friendly transportation. Existing compressed natural gas (CNG) buses do not generate fine dust while driving but emit 968.55g of carbon dioxide and 0.797g of nitrogen oxides per kilometer.
Considering that one route 370 bus travels 86,000 km annually, Seoul City explained that one hydrogen bus purifies the air equivalent to what 76 adults breathe in one year.
This bus uses the H Gangdong Hydrogen Charging Station located 2.4 km one way from the garage. A single 30 kg charge allows all-day operation.

Seoul City plans to supply 1,000 eco-friendly hydrogen buses and build 11 charging stations by 2025. Hwang Bo-yeon, Director of Seoul City Urban Transportation Office, said, "Buses have long driving distances, so switching to eco-friendly vehicles has a significant effect. By 2025, we will expand hydrogen vehicles and hydrogen charging infrastructure so that many citizens can experience their convenience and actively respond to climate change."
