Wangbeot and Ginkgo Trees Replaced with Jongsasi and Baekhap... Pohang City Launches Street Tree Replacement Project
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Pohang City, Gyeongbuk Province, has established a comprehensive plan for the 54,015 street trees planted along 212 routes including Donghaean-ro, and will begin species replacement work starting next year.
In September, Pohang City, which conducted the 'Street Tree Management Comprehensive Plan' project, reported the established plan to the Construction and Urban Committee through the regular meeting briefing on the 11th, and plans to finalize the related plan by collecting opinions from the city council.
The street tree comprehensive plan project was a measure reflecting local public opinion that pointed out issues such as the landscape deterioration caused by plane trees and excessive management costs during the administrative audit of Pohang City Council in June, and the need to consider replacing street tree species to improve the city image.
According to the project, 61.4% of the currently planted street trees are concentrated in specific species such as King Cherry, Ipop, and Ginkgo, indicating the need to introduce various species considering regional characteristics and landscape. Recommended alternative species include Zelkova serrata, Bokjagi, Lily, and Sawtooth Oak.
Expanding the quantity and quality of green new deal-type street trees in accordance with national policies and climate change was also presented as a task. For quantitative expansion, models for creation according to environmental conditions such as residential, commercial, and business areas will be prepared, and street green spaces will be quantitatively expanded through multi-row and layered planting of street trees according to sidewalk width.
