View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] In Angang-eup, a small rural village in Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, the spread of new coronavirus infections (COVID-19) through multiple transmission chains continues unabated.
Not only in Gyeongju but also in Pohang, consecutive infections have persisted, resulting in 5 new confirmed cases in each city.
According to Gyeongsangbuk-do on the 15th, a total of 15 new confirmed cases were added, including 2 each in Andong and Gyeongsan besides Gyeongju and Pohang, and 1 in Yeongcheon, bringing the cumulative confirmed cases in the Gyeongsangbuk-do region to 1,823 as of midnight that day.
In Gyeongju-si, 5 people, including 3 family members living in Angang-eup, tested positive after close contact with the head of a family who was confirmed positive on the 13th. Among these confirmed family members, there is also an elementary school student attending a school in Angang-eup, raising concerns about additional confirmed cases.
Since the confirmation of a couple who run a delivery-focused restaurant (Gyeongju cases 121 and 124) on the 6th, a chain of infections has continued, increasing the related confirmed cases in Angang-eup to 14 as of the morning of the 15th. Including residents confirmed in Pohang, the total reaches 15.
In Pohang-si, among the 5 new confirmed cases, 3 are contacts of a case confirmed the previous day (Pohang case 154, infection route unknown). Another case is a contact of a prior confirmed case in Angang-eup, Gyeongju (Gyeongju case 137), and the remaining one is a contact of a confirmed case (Pohang case 161).
In Andong-si, 2 people who were classified as close contacts of confirmed cases on the 11th (Andong cases 68 and 69) tested positive after undergoing testing.
In Gyeongsan-si and Yeongcheon-si, 2 and 1 people respectively, who visited screening clinics with symptoms, tested positive.
