Dongui University Wins Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Award for 'Marine Debris Collection Robot' Idea
Undergraduate Student from Dong-Eui University Wins Grand Prize at the 1st Incheon International Maritime Forum
Students from Dong-Eui University won the grand prize in the Marine Industry Idea Contest jointly hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and Incheon City.

Park Su-jin, Park Woo-ryeol, and Seo Sang-woo, senior students majoring in Mechanical Engineering in the Department of Mechanical, Automotive, and Robotics Engineering at Dong-Eui University (President Han Su-hwan), received the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Award, the grand prize in the idea category, and a prize of 500,000 won at the award ceremony of the ‘1st Incheon International Maritime Forum Marine Industry Development Idea and Thesis Contest’ held on November 20 at the Grand Ballroom of Songdo Convensia in Incheon.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and Incheon City invited ideas and theses on marine industry development plans, including policies, technologies, and new business models, under the themes of △Shipping, Ports, and Cities △Inter-Korean Logistics △Smart Marine △Marine Environment △Marine Tourism, targeting university and graduate students nationwide.
The Dong-Eui University student team won the grand prize with their idea of a ‘Marine Floating Trash Collection Robot.’ They proposed a method to dramatically increase the limited trash collection capacity of existing robots by applying a detachable trash storage box function to the robot, while also achieving miniaturization of the robot.
Park Woo-ryeol of Dong-Eui University said, “There were many difficulties during the preparation process due to COVID-19, and since this was our first time participating in this contest field, there were many trial and errors, but with the guidance of Professor Son In-su and good teamwork, we achieved good results.”
