Gyeongnam Province Strongly Requests Reextension of Employment Crisis Area Designation
Ministry of Employment and Labor to Announce Extension Decision After Review by the 15th
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Gyeongnam Province has strongly requested the government to extend the designation period of the employment crisis areas, which is set to end at the end of this year.
On the 14th, Gyeongnam Province announced that it had strongly urged the government to extend the designation period of the four employment crisis areas within the province: Jinhae-gu in Changwon City, Tongyeong City, Geoje City, and Goseong County.
The on-site inspection by the public-private joint investigation team for employment crisis areas, led by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, was conducted via video conference due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
During the on-site inspection, the province explained the poor employment conditions of local industries and the necessity of extending the designation period.
Park Jongwon, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs of the province, said, “Although the shipbuilding industry is going through a difficult period due to the spread of COVID-19, recent consecutive orders have been received, so government support is needed to endure until the employment recovery in the shipbuilding industry in the second half of next year.”
