Hyosung Advanced Materials Selected as Top Grade for Global Climate Change Response
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Hyosung Advanced Materials has been recognized for its efforts in climate change response by a global carbon management information disclosure organization.
Hyosung Advanced Materials announced on the 14th that it was selected for the highest grade, A, in the 2020 Carbon Management "Climate Change Response" category conducted by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), a global climate change initiative headquartered in the UK.
This holds great significance as it is the first time Hyosung Advanced Materials received the highest grade in the CDP evaluation since transitioning to a holding company system. The A grade is awarded to a select few companies with excellent climate change response activities, related risk management, and information disclosure. CDP is known as the most trusted indicator evaluating the level of climate change response, a part of sustainable management, alongside the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and FTSE4GOOD (Socially Responsible Investment Index). This year, over 9,600 companies worldwide participated in the CDP evaluation, with a total of nine domestic companies selected, representing the top 3%.
Hyosung Advanced Materials’ selection for the A grade this time was made possible by the company’s proactive climate change response activities. The company is striving to reduce greenhouse gases and minimize environmental impact through the establishment of a green management strategy system, aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 19.7% by 2030 compared to 2017.
To fulfill its social responsibility related to green management, Hyosung Advanced Materials operates the Green Management Committee and Risk Management Committee within the governance system of the Sustainable Management Committee. Through this, it manages climate change-related risks and undertakes necessary improvement activities. In particular, since 2013, it has actively supported low-carbon management within the supply chain by disclosing the environmental impact level in the product manufacturing process through international carbon footprint certification of major products.
Hwang Jung-mo, CEO of Hyosung Advanced Materials, stated, "We will become a company leading carbon reduction through continuous development of new materials."

Meanwhile, Hyosung Corporation also obtained an A- grade, a level awarded to leading companies in climate change management processes and activity levels (grades A, A-). Hyosung Corporation has been steadily participating in CDP since 2010 and continues to establish strategies and manage related risks for green management, including climate change response, through the operation of the EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) Committee directly overseen by the CEO.
