High Pathogenic Avian Influenza Confirmed at Duck Farm No. 2 in Yeongam, Jeonnam
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for Avian Influenza announced on the 13th that highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N8 type) was confirmed at two meat duck farms located in Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do.
As a result of epidemiological farm inspections by the quarantine agency (Jeonnam Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory) following the 8th outbreak (Naju, meat ducks), H5 type AI antigen was detected at two farms the previous day. Since then, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters has implemented preemptive quarantine measures such as controlling access to the farms and restricting movement related to farm facilities.
The related measures include ▲preventive culling of poultry within a 3km radius of the outbreak farms ▲a 30-day movement restriction and AI mass testing for poultry farms within a 10km radius ▲a 7-day movement restriction for all poultry farms in Yeongam-gun, Jeollanam-do, the outbreak area.

A representative of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters stated, "This is a serious situation with a high risk of highly pathogenic AI outbreaks if disinfection and quarantine practices at farms are even slightly insufficient," and urged, "Farm owners should maintain the highest level of vigilance and thoroughly implement blocking quarantine measures such as disinfecting vehicles and people entering the farms and minimizing entry to livestock barns."
