Lotte Department Store Holds Discount Event on Educational Toys and Playthings for Infants and Children
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] This year, due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), kindergartens and schools have consecutively closed, resulting in a significant increase in sales of educational materials and toys for young children.
On the 13th, Lotte Department Store reviewed the sales of children's book sets and educational materials at the kids' complex cultural space 'Dongsim Seodang' from January to November this year, and found that sales increased by 37% compared to last year. This contrasts with a 14% decline in children's clothing sales during the same period compared to the previous year.
Accordingly, Lotte Department Store Dongsim Seodang is holding various discount events for the Christmas gift season. At the Jamsil branch, until the 25th, customers who purchase one Great Books single volume and one themed single volume will receive a Christmas random box, and those who purchase Bruder products over 50,000 won will receive a figure. Additionally, at the Suwon branch, the Volcano Eruption Dino Adventure and Angel Clay Signature are being sold at a 40% discount.
Discount events are also being held online. From the 14th to the 20th, Lotte ON is hosting the 'Kids Holiday Gift Festival,' offering 20-60% discounts on over 200 types of educational materials, toys, miscellaneous goods, and clothing.
Lotte ON is also introducing exclusive products. First, they are exclusively selling the special Christmas gift 'Gyemongsa Disney Picture Classics 60-Volume Set,' which allows parents to share childhood memories with their children. This product, known as a national fairy tale book in the 1980s, includes many popular works such as Sleeping Beauty, The Jungle Book, and The Penguin Who Hates the Cold. It was reissued earlier this year after 30 years and recorded about 300 million won in sales through exclusive sales at Lotte Department Store for one month. Until the 31st, a book donation challenge is also underway, where purchasing one Gyemongsa book results in one book being donated to underprivileged children.
Furthermore, a 10% overlapping discount coupon is provided for purchases over 100,000 won, and customers who participate in the event after purchasing over 100,000 won will receive 10,000 L.POINTs.

Kim Sang-woo, head of MD Strategy at Lotte Department Store, said, “As outdoor activities have become difficult, many parents are creating playrooms and study rooms at home, leading to increased demand for book sets and imported toys. With more customers preferring non-face-to-face consumption, we plan to continue expanding and introducing various online-exclusive products in the future.”
