Daegu City Officials 5,060 People Donate 22 Million Won for 'Christmas Seal' Fundraising

On the morning of the 11th, at Daegu City Hall, Deputy Mayor Chae Hong-ho received the Christmas Seal and delivered a donation from Lee Kwan-ho, President of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Branch of the Korean Tuberculosis Association.
So far, about 5,060 Daegu city employees have participated, raising approximately 22 million KRW in donations. The fundraising will continue until the end of February next year. The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Branch of the Korean Tuberculosis Association is conducting the 2020 Christmas Seal fundraising campaign with a goal of raising 322.8 million KRW by the end of February.
The funds raised will be fully used for tuberculosis patient detection projects, public awareness campaigns, support projects for tuberculosis patients and student welfare, research and development, among others. Participation in the fundraising can be made through the official Christmas Seal online shopping mall operated by the Korean Tuberculosis Association.
Deputy Mayor Chae Hong-ho urged many citizens to participate, saying, "Let us shake off all the hardships of this year and face new hope in 2021."

Meanwhile, in South Korea, tuberculosis occurs at a rate of 46.4 cases per 100,000 people. Although it has the highest tuberculosis incidence rate among OECD member countries, it has been steadily decreasing since 2011. In 2019, 23,821 new tuberculosis patients were reported throughout the year.
