Biden's Second Son "Under Federal Prosecutor Investigation Over Tax Issues"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] Hunter Biden, son of US President-elect Joe Biden, has revealed that he is under investigation by the federal prosecutors in Delaware regarding tax issues. Hunter is reportedly being investigated for allegations including money laundering, and if the charges are confirmed, it is expected to pose a political burden on President-elect Biden.
According to foreign media such as CNN on the 9th (local time), Hunter stated in a press release, "I am under investigation by the Delaware federal prosecutors regarding tax issues," adding, "I take this matter seriously, but I am confident that a professional and objective review will prove that I handled my affairs lawfully and appropriately."
CNN reported, "President-elect Biden is not involved in this investigation," and that "the investigation, which was paused during the election, is now being resumed." Previously, the federal prosecutors in Delaware, in cooperation with the IRS and FBI, had been investigating Hunter Biden but temporarily suspended the investigation during the election period. CNN explained that this was in accordance with the Department of Justice guidelines prohibiting actions that could influence the election. In this investigation, the federal prosecutors are expected to examine whether Hunter engaged in money laundering or tax violations through transactions with foreign countries such as China. Additionally, the FBI is investigating whether there were any counterintelligence activities involving China during this process.
President-elect Biden has pledged to allow the prosecutors to conduct an independent investigation into matters involving Hunter without political interference. He emphasized, "I will not tell anyone to prosecute A, B, or C, nor is there any need to," adding, "Because it is not my Department of Justice, but the people's Department of Justice."
