Uniqlo Selected as a Recognized Company for Community Contribution
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] Global fashion brand Uniqlo announced on the 10th that it has been selected as a 2020 Community Contribution Recognized Company.
The Community Contribution Recognition System is a program jointly hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea National Council on Social Welfare that discovers companies and organizations contributing to regional revitalization through continuous social contribution activities based on partnerships with non-profit organizations.
This year, Uniqlo has carried out donation activities that provide practical help to many local communities and neighbors facing difficulties due to unexpected situations such as the spread of COVID-19, monsoon rains, and typhoons, through cooperation with non-profit organizations such as Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association (hereinafter Hope Bridge).
At the early stage of the COVID-19 outbreak, Uniqlo supported 15,000 masks to the Daegu Child Welfare Association for vulnerable children and related facility workers in the Daegu area, and through Hope Bridge, delivered relief funds and functional innerwear worth about 170 million KRW to support medical staff in the Gyeongbuk region. Afterwards, additional masks were provided to the Gangwon Regional Child Center Support Group for children in the Gangwon area.
Moreover, Uniqlo donated 100 million KRW to Hope Bridge for flood recovery and support for disaster victims caused by the longest monsoon and typhoons in history, and through major non-profit organizations, delivered functional clothing and innerwear to the elderly in rural areas vulnerable to heatwaves, as well as to elderly living alone and homeless people nationwide.
Uniqlo continuously promotes social contribution campaigns in cooperation with various welfare organizations so that socially vulnerable groups requiring more attention, such as people with disabilities, single mothers, and children, can live better lives through clothing. Together with the Korea Cerebral Palsy Welfare Association, Uniqlo is conducting the ‘Clothing Reform Support Campaign for People with Disabilities,’ which provides customized clothing to people with brain lesions who have difficulty wearing ready-made clothes, and through the Korea Single-Parent Family Welfare Facilities Association, it supports single mothers with parenting lectures and clothing for mothers and children through the ‘Mom Plus Campaign.’
