Mapo-gu Holds 'Resident Autonomy Committee Online Resident General Meeting'
Despite COVID-19, 50 Projects Promoted This Year... Deliberative Democracy Forum... First Online Resident General Assembly... Evaluation of This Year's Resident Autonomy Activities and Selection of Next Year's Autonomy Plan
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) will hold the '2020 Mapo-gu Residents' Autonomous Committee Online Residents' General Assembly' from the 10th to the 16th.
The Residents' General Assembly is a participatory and public forum where residents directly discuss and vote on village issues they have discovered and proposed, ultimately confirming them as future autonomous plans.
Based on voluntary participation of residents, it serves as a direct democracy system by evaluating the achievements of the residents' autonomous committee, which is the representative organization of residents, and establishing future plans.
Unlike previous years when residents gathered in person, this year the district plans to conduct the Residents' General Assembly online due to concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The Residents' General Assembly, scheduled from the 10th to the 16th, will review the activities of each neighborhood's residents' autonomous committee throughout the year and finalize the autonomous plans to be promoted next year.
To this end, on the 7th, Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun of Mapo-gu and the heads of the residents' autonomous committees of Gongdeok-dong, Yonggang-dong, Seogang-dong, Seogyo-dong, and Seongsan 2-dong pre-recorded a video declaring the opening of this year's 'Residents' General Assembly Week.'
Additionally, the heads of each neighborhood's residents' autonomous committee subcommittees and residents' autonomous committee members are producing videos containing content such as performance reports on village projects carried out this year, dissemination of best practices, and reports on 2021 project agendas.
These videos will be released online starting with the opening ceremony on the 10th through the Mapo TV YouTube channel. From the 11th to the 15th, they will be broadcast to residents via each village autonomy center's YouTube channel and online bands in the order of Seogang-dong, Gongdeok-dong, Seogyo-dong, Seongsan 2-dong, and Yonggang-dong, with the closing ceremony held on the 16th.
In January 2019, Mapo-gu selected Gongdeok, Yonggang, Seogang, Seogyo, and Seongsan 2-dong as pilot neighborhoods for implementing residents' autonomous committees after processes such as forming committee executives and establishing operational regulations.
This year, despite the spread of COVID-19, each residents' autonomous committee is promoting a total of 50 projects through face-to-face or non-face-to-face methods.

Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun of Mapo-gu said, "Despite the difficulties caused by the spread of COVID-19 this year, the efforts of residents in the autonomous committees to promote projects for the development of each region have not changed," and added, "The district will spare no support to ensure that residents' autonomous committees can settle more stably and successfully carry out projects in the future."
