Revised Road Traffic Act: Imprisonment up to 1 Year for Exceeding Speed Limit by Over 100km/h More Than 3 Times
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency urged drivers to drive safely on the 9th in relation to the enforcement of the revised Road Traffic Act that punishes speeding.
Starting from the 10th, the revised Road Traffic Act will be enforced, which criminally punishes speeding that exceeds the speed limit by more than 80 km/h.
Previously, the maximum penalty for speeding over 60 km/h was a fine of 120,000 won.
However, under the revised Road Traffic Act, if a driver is caught speeding more than 100 km/h over the regulated speed three or more times, imprisonment for up to one year is possible.
For example, if a driver exceeds the speed limit of 50 km/h by 80 km/h and drives at 130 km/h, a fine of up to 300,000 won will be imposed.
Also, on a highway with a speed limit of 100 km/h, if a driver is caught driving at 200 km/h, exceeding the limit by 100 km/h, a fine of up to 1,000,000 won will be imposed for the first offense, but if caught speeding more than 100 km/h three or more times, imprisonment for up to one year may be imposed.
