Jointly Selected by 7 Industry-Academia-Research Institutions Related to Machinery
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The Korea Machine Industry Promotion Association (Chairman Son Dong-yeon), along with seven leading organizations from industry, academia, and research in the machinery sector, jointly announced on the 9th the selection of outstanding contributors in the machinery field as the "Machine Person of the Year."
To enhance the pride of machinery industry professionals, the Korea Machine Industry Promotion Association, together with the Korea Federation of Machinery Industry Associations, Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials, Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, Korea Aerospace Research Institute, Korea Railroad Research Institute, and the Capital Goods Mutual Aid Association, annually selects the Machine Person of the Year along with awarding outstanding contributors.
The Machine Person of the Year is selected in four categories: industry, academia, research, and skilled technicians. This year, four individuals including Kim Dong-seop, CEO of Hyodong Machinery Industry in the industrial sector, were awarded. CEO Kim contributed to strengthening the national competitiveness of Korea's machinery industry by establishing an independent model of forging forming machines through nearly 37 years of continuous research and development, and exporting more than 70% of the produced products to advanced machinery countries such as Germany and Japan.
In academia, Professor Cho Hyeong-hee of Yonsei University was selected for contributing to industrial development by establishing a Korean-style gas turbine high-temperature component thermal design process covering the entire design cycle and domesticating design technology. The Machine Person of the Year in research is Senior Researcher Seo Seung-il of the Korea Railroad Research Institute. He was recognized for his contribution to the development of mountain railway running and track system technology capable of catenary-free operation on existing sharp curve and steep mountain roads without environmental damage. Chief Technical Officer Kang Dong-il of Doosan Heavy Industries was selected in the skilled technician category. He contributed to stabilizing the power generation industry and enhancing national competitiveness through the localization and independent production technology of key power plant equipment such as Korean-style gas turbine high-temperature components.
