[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] The Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences at Honam University recently held a public lecture titled "Freely Reading Greek Mythology: From Kronos to Zeus" by inviting Director Yang Jin-ho (Institute of Humanities Education) as a lecturer in the institute's online meeting room, the institute announced on the 9th.
As part of the Korea Research Foundation's support project for humanities and social science research institutes, in this public lecture, Director Yang introduced the story of the second generation of gods, beginning with Kronos, who became the supreme god after overthrowing Ouranos, being subdued by his son Zeus, whom he had tried to check to maintain his power, following the previous lecture.
Director Yang introduced the three goddesses called the "Sammi-shin," who represent beauty, and examined the statues of Hera, symbolizing aristocratic beauty; Athena, embodying androgyny and intellectual beauty; and Aphrodite, representing innocence and sensuality, explaining the subtly different external images and the exquisite meanings of the nicknames representing each goddess.
He concluded the lecture by stating that Zeus, who subdued Kronos, the god of "time," possesses eternal power, marking the beginning of the story of the second generation of gods.
This public lecture, conducted under the Korea Research Foundation's support project for humanities and social science research institutes, is held over seven sessions from the 17th of last month to the 22nd of this month, focusing on mythology, culture, and philosophical literacy.
