Seocho-gu Delivers Winter Gifts Including Cold-Weather Supplies to Low-Income Vulnerable Groups
Support for 100 Participants in Self-Sufficiency Projects with Warm Winter Supplies and Lunch Boxes Filled with Care... Delivering Encouragement Messages to Vulnerable Groups Facing Increased Hardships Due to COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Jo) will deliver winter supplies (heat packs, thermal blankets), lunch boxes filled with love and care, and calligraphy cards containing warm encouragement messages to 100 low-income vulnerable individuals to help them have a warm winter.
This support targets low-income individuals receiving basic living subsidies and those in the next lower income bracket participating in self-sufficiency projects. It was prepared to provide emotional support to vulnerable groups whose lives have become more difficult due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, to encourage their will for independence and self-reliance, and to help them prepare for the cold winter weather.
The district continuously leads job creation efforts to promote the independence and self-reliance of low-income vulnerable groups.
First, in 2016, the Seocho Regional Self-Sufficiency Center was established to provide more stable jobs, professional vocational training, and technical guidance, creating a ‘people-centered’ self-sufficiency project model based on participants’ strengths for emotional and economic independence.
Additionally, in July, the dining business group ‘Guksunamu Green’ was opened, offering specialized training related to dining, such as cooking skills, know-how, and customer service, enabling participants to obtain chef certification and progress toward self-sufficiency and employment.
In particular, the district has operated the ‘Umbrella Repair Center’ since 2003, and from July, it has been run as a self-sufficiency project group, providing jobs to low-income vulnerable individuals with work ability, teaching umbrella repair skills to lay the foundation for self-reliance and independence.
This is significant as an eco-friendly green project that saves the planet through recycling resources that are easily discarded.

Mayor Eunhee Jo said, “We have prepared this with heartfelt care to help people have a warm winter during the exhausting and difficult cold season caused by COVID-19,” and added, “I hope this will be a good gift that strengthens the will for independence as subjects of self-reliance, not as marginalized groups in society.”
