Jungnang-gu Awards 192 Million Won in Jungnang Scholarships to 355 Elementary, Middle, and High School Students
A total of 355 students, including 48 academic excellence scholars and 226 general scholars, received 192 million KRW... General scholar selection ratio expanded by 10%
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) has stepped up to support students' dreams and hopes.
The district announced on the 10th that it will provide a total of 192 million KRW in scholarships to 355 students selected as the 2nd Jungnang Scholarship recipients.
This selection follows the first round in August, where 142 students received 135 million KRW in scholarships. The 2nd scholarship recipients include 48 academic excellence scholars, 226 general scholars, 48 arts and physical education specialty scholars, and 33 other scholars, totaling 355 students who will receive a combined scholarship amount of 192 million KRW.
The scholarship recipients are ▲ middle and high school students ranking within the top 10% academically (academic excellence scholars), ▲ children from families facing economic difficulties due to COVID-19 and other reasons, ranking within the top 70% academically and with household income below 80% of the median income (general scholars), ▲ winners of various competitions in arts and physical education fields (specialty scholarships), and ▲ exemplary students in areas such as good deeds, volunteer work, filial piety, and academic improvement (other scholars).
The scholarship recipients were finally selected through a review by the Jungnang Scholarship Fund Management Committee, based on recommendations from school principals or community leaders.
In particular, this year, considering families struggling due to COVID-19, the proportion of general scholars was increased by 10%.
The 2nd Jungnang Scholarship certificate awarding ceremony was scheduled to be held three times on November 23, 25, and December 10 to prevent the spread of COVID-19. However, due to the escalation of social distancing measures, the ceremonies on November 25 and December 10 were canceled, and the scholarship certificates will be delivered by mail.
Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “I hope the Jungnang Scholarship will be a practical help to students who have faced difficulties in their studies due to COVID-19,” and added, “We will continue to strive to nurture local talented individuals and provide equal educational opportunities.”
