Kim Su-yeong, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member, Points Out Issues in Urban Regeneration New Deal Project
Repeated Defects in Home Repair Support Project...Questions Raised About Suitability of Selected Companies
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Sooyoung, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council, pointed out overall issues and inadequate project implementation regarding the Urban Regeneration New Deal project during the administrative audit on the 7th.
Councilor Kim explained, “The Urban Regeneration New Deal project is a large-scale initiative by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, investing a massive budget of 50 trillion won over five years in 500 locations nationwide,” adding, “Currently, Seo-gu is also conducting urban regeneration projects in the Yangdong and Nongsong-dong areas.”
He continued, “However, during the house repair support project, which is part of the urban regeneration project, multiple defects have occurred, and the damage has directly affected the residents who should be the beneficiaries of the urban regeneration project,” asserting, “I have doubts about whether a suitable company was selected overall, including concerns about the construction companies’ lack of technical skills and expertise.”
He urged, “Strengthening supervision and guidance of project-performing companies and expanding the criteria for company selection require proactive administration.”
He also mentioned the issue of securing village hub spaces in the urban regeneration project.
Councilor Kim stated, “Currently, Seo-gu is carrying out the Village Community Center construction project, which should be prioritized, but the delay in timing has led to an increase in land acquisition costs,” explaining, “The appraisal value of the building to be used as the site is 3.5 times the official land price, and the remodeling costs after purchase exceed the acquisition costs, making it appear to be an inappropriate project that does not align with the fundamental purpose of the urban regeneration project.”
