According to Gangjin-gun on the 8th, during the site visit, Lee Seung-ok, Mayor of Gangjin-gun, directly briefed on the major projects completed so far on Gau-do as well as the upcoming 'Gau-do Tourism Development Plan,' and exchanged opinions to ensure the Gau-do development project proceeds effectively.
Afterwards, time was spent touring Gau-do to inspect the ongoing monorail and suspension bridge projects, as well as the 'planned site for Gau-do tourism development.'
Governor Kim visited the Jeodu District Agricultural Products Sales Center to encourage local residents who are struggling due to a decrease in visitors caused by COVID-19 and the quarantine workers who are working hard for Gangjin, a COVID-19 clean area.
Mayor Lee Seung-ok said, “Beyond the experiential facilities currently underway, such as the monorail and suspension bridge, we will strive to expand new content so that Gangjin can develop into the center of tourism on the southwest coast.” He added, “We request the Jeonnam Province’s attention and support so that we can be selected for the 2021 Investment Leading District Public Contest (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport), which will receive 10 billion KRW in national funding.”
Meanwhile, on October 24th, an investment agreement ceremony for the Gau-do tourism complex development was held at the governor’s office in the provincial government building, attended by Governor Kim Young-rok, Mayor Lee Seung-ok of Gangjin-gun, and Lee Yong-baek, CEO of the investment company GFI Development Co., Ltd.
GFI Development Co., Ltd. plans to invest approximately 370 billion KRW by 2024 to develop Gau-do and its surrounding areas into a tourist destination.
The first phase involves constructing a marine cable car and sky bike connecting Daegu-myeon Haj? and Doam-myeon Mangho, centered on Gau-do, on a 90,000-pyeong site. The second and third phases will include an alpine coaster and tourism, leisure, and resort facilities with 540 rooms.
