[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangbuk-gu (District Mayor Park Kyum-soo) is hosting a lecture and promoting an exhibition of award-winning works from a human rights art contest to commemorate World Human Rights Day and to foster a community free from discrimination and prejudice.
First, the district invited sociologist Oh Chan-ho to give a human rights lecture titled "The True Face of Labor Revealed by COVID-19."
Participants will use the lecture to examine the current state of human rights for essential workers facing poor working conditions due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and to consider ways for coexistence and mutual growth.
Oh Chan-ho has authored numerous books on discrimination and inequality in Korean society, including titles such as "I Never Said the World Got Better" and "In a World Where Even a Single Serving of Gopchang Is Delivered, Is Everyone Happy?"
As face-to-face activities have become difficult due to COVID-19, the district is conducting the lecture online.
Those interested can watch the lecture on the YouTube channel "City of History, Culture, and Tourism Gangbuk-gu." The lecture will be available from December 28 until June 27 of the following year.
Meanwhile, from December 14 to 18, human rights artworks will be exhibited on the first floor of the Gangbuk-gu Office. The exhibited works consist of award-winning pieces from the 2020 Human Rights Contest hosted by the National Human Rights Commission.
