Songpa-gu Hosts 'Non-Face-to-Face Festival for People with Disabilities'

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) will hold the 40th Disabled Persons Day event, the 'Songpa-gu Disabled Festival,' organized by the Songpa-gu Disabled Welfare Development Council (Chairman Seo Jeong-min), online on the 9th.
The Disabled Persons Day event usually includes a commemorative ceremony and celebratory performances with various programs where both disabled and non-disabled people can participate and enjoy together. However, this year, due to COVID-19, the schedule was postponed, and a small-scale event will be held at the Songpa Inseong Disabled Welfare Center, including the lighting of the Hope Tree and delivery of Hope Packages.
Under the slogan "Hope for the Disabled," the "2020 Songpa-gu Disabled Festival" was planned to deliver messages of encouragement and support to disabled people and their families who are exhausted from daily life, aiming to create a warm and caring local community during the year-end and New Year holidays.
Starting at 4 p.m. on the 9th, the lighting of the Hope Tree decorated with hopeful messages will take place at the Songpa Inseong Disabled Welfare Center. Awards for meritorious disabled persons will be delivered to each institution and conducted in an untact (contactless) manner.
The "Hope Packages" contain messages wishing for overcoming COVID-19 and good health, including ▲ham and tuna daily necessities sets ▲gloves and warmers for cold protection, tailored to the characteristics of the recipients. These will be individually delivered to 1,500 users of residential facilities and low-income home-based disabled persons.

Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, "Although daily life has stopped and become exhausting and difficult due to COVID-19, I hope that disabled persons, their families, and local residents will find comfort and hope by looking at the brightly shining Hope Tree." He added, "Songpa-gu will also do its best to overcome COVID-19 together with disabled persons and return to a healthy and peaceful daily life."
