Jeonnam Province Establishes Anti-Freezing Measures for Water Facilities in Vulnerable Areas
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province announced on the 7th that it has established anti-freezing measures for water supply facilities in preparation for winter cold waves in cooperation with local cities and counties, and will actively work to prevent damage.
Accordingly, the province and local governments have established and begun implementing customized preventive measures against extreme winter weather. The focus was on minimizing inconvenience to residents through management of vulnerable areas such as old houses and areas prone to freezing, as well as rapid recovery by operating situation and emergency restoration teams.
The province will focus on managing 1,849 water supply facilities, 19,712 km of pipelines, and 321,044 household water meters.
Water supply facilities are at risk of freezing if temperatures remain below 5℃. Accordingly, Jeonnam Province plans to frequently inform residents about temperature changes so that water pipes, meters, rooftop water tanks, and other water supply equipment can be pre-insulated with covers, and to strengthen publicity for freezing prevention measures such as allowing a slight flow of tap water.
In addition, an emergency water supply system has been established between the province and local governments, and preventive activities are being carried out to prevent freezing of small-scale water facilities and household meters through regular inspections by city and county officials and village water supply managers, as well as announcements via neighborhood meetings and village broadcasts.
Furthermore, in case drinking water supply is delayed due to freezing, the province and local governments have coordinated with the Korea Water Resources Corporation to provide drinking water immediately, and have established an organic cooperation system among the province, local governments, and related organizations to ensure early restoration of frozen water supply facilities.
