Wang Reaches Out to US, Chinese Foreign Minister Says "Cooperation with America Needed"
Emphasizing Peaceful Relations in Video Conference with China-US Trade National Committee Delegation
Most Serious Situation Since Establishment of Diplomatic Relations, "Neither Side Should Shift Responsibility"
[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Jo Young-shin] Wang Yi, China's State Councilor and Foreign Minister in charge of diplomacy, emphasized dialogue and cooperation between China and the United States.
According to China's official Xinhua News Agency on the 7th, Minister Wang held a video conference with the delegation of the China-US Trade National Committee Board of Directors in Beijing that day.
At the meeting, Minister Wang stated, "The two countries must remove various concerns and obstacles and establish peaceful China-US relations," adding, "At the same time, the next phase of bilateral relations should proceed in a direction that aligns with the common interests of both countries and their peoples by resuming dialogue and striving for normalization of relations and rebuilding mutual trust."
Minister Wang further pointed out, "China-US relations have recently experienced serious difficulties," and said, "This is something none of us wanted to see."
He also said, "Countries must engage in exchanges and cooperation, not division," and "They should help each other, not shift responsibility," which is interpreted as a remark alluding to the responsibility of China regarding the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Minister Wang especially emphasized, "The healthy development of China-US relations is deeply related to the fate and welfare of both countries and the people of the world," and urged, "I hope the United States will make the right choice about the future direction of China-US relations."
He said, "Bilateral relations are currently in the most serious situation since the establishment of diplomatic ties," and pointed out, "The fundamental cause of this situation is some Americans who hold Cold War mentality and ideological prejudice."
