Convenience Stores Protecting Children... Seven Eleven's 8,100 Stores Participate as 'Child Safety Keeper Houses'
Voluntary Participation of Over 8,100 Franchise Stores Nationwide
Role in Reporting, Preventing, and Protecting Against Child Abuse
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Convenience store Seven Eleven is strengthening its role as a child safety hub in daily life as part of its activities to create a society where children are happy.
Seven Eleven announced on the 7th that more than 8,100 franchise stores nationwide have applied to participate in the ‘Child Safety Keeper House’ activities. This is the result of active and voluntary participation by Seven Eleven store owners amid growing social outrage over crimes against young children, such as child abuse.
Going forward, Seven Eleven Child Safety Keeper House stores will perform roles such as ▲ observing and reporting child abuse ▲ providing guidance and promotion for child abuse prevention ▲ serving as temporary shelters for children.
Since signing an agreement with the National Police Agency in 2009 for the Child Safety Keeper House, Seven Eleven has been conducting the ‘Dodam Dodam Campaign’ to prevent child abuse. In September, under the auspices of the Korea Convenience Store Industry Association, member companies including Seven Eleven signed a business agreement with Daejeon Metropolitan City and the Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency to become a ‘Leading City for Child Abuse Prevention.’
As part of the Dodam Dodam Campaign, Seven Eleven operates 11 products featuring child abuse prevention messages to promote prevention and reporting. Notices related to child abuse reporting and prevention are continuously displayed on the customer-facing screen of the store’s POS (Point of Sale) system, and related promotional videos are broadcast on internal digital signage (D/S). Since August, in collaboration with the Child Rights Protection Agency, stickers containing photos and personal information of missing children have been produced and attached to four best-selling lunchbox containers as part of a campaign to find missing children.
To raise public awareness of child safety, Seven Eleven will hold a promotion throughout December where customers who purchase any of the 11 ‘Child Abuse Prevention Promotional Products’ and collect stamps on the Seven Eleven mobile application (app) will have a chance to win mobile gift certificates through a game, with a total of 150 winners.
