US COVID-19 Vaccine Supply Expected to Reach Only 10% of Annual Target
[Asia Economy Reporter Sung Ki-ho] The U.S. administration initially promised to supply hundreds of millions of doses of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine within this year, but it is now projected that the actual supply will amount to only 10% of the target.
According to U.S. media on the 5th (local time), Moncef Slaoui, the chief official in charge of COVID-19 vaccine development under the Trump administration, recently stated that the COVID-19 vaccine supply planned by the end of this year will be limited to 35 million to 40 million doses. This quantity is enough to immunize about 20 million people against the COVID-19 virus.
This is only one-tenth of the 300 million doses (single-dose units) previously promised by the U.S. government.
