IBK Industrial Bank, Awarded the Presidential Citation at the Korea Volunteer Awards
High Praise for Social Contribution Activities Including Operation of Sarang-ui Bapcha and Global Volunteer Work
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] IBK Industrial Bank announced on the 6th that it received the Presidential Citation in the volunteer category at the ‘2020 Korea Volunteer Awards’.
The Korea Volunteer Awards are presented to institutions, local governments, individuals, and volunteer organizations with significant contributions to volunteering, in commemoration of the International Volunteer Day (December 5) designated by the UN. The awards are hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Korea Volunteer Center.
IBK Industrial Bank was highly evaluated for its volunteer activities such as operating the Love Meal Truck, global volunteer activities, and supporting employee volunteer clubs, as well as social contribution activities including scholarships and medical expense support for families of small and medium-sized enterprise workers and marginalized groups, and operating the IBK SME Joint Workplace Daycare Center.
Since starting the Love Meal Truck in 2012, the bank has operated it in 30 regions nationwide, providing free meals to approximately 2.1 million vulnerable people such as elderly living alone. In particular, whenever disasters such as COVID-19, heavy rains, the Pohang earthquake, and wildfires in Gangwon Province occurred, the bank visited affected areas to provide free meals and lunch boxes.
Additionally, IBK runs IBK Mentoring, which connects scholarship recipients with children from marginalized groups to provide tutoring volunteer activities, and has dispatched volunteer teams to 80 regions nationwide as well as developing countries in Southeast Asia.
Especially this year, amid the COVID-19 situation, the bank supported relief supplies (masks, relief kits, hand sanitizers, etc.) and food items, and contributed to overcoming the national crisis by providing its training center (located in Chungju) as a COVID-19 residential treatment center.
To improve the welfare of SME workers, the bank supports scholarships and medical expenses for workers’ families and operates the IBK SME Joint Workplace Daycare Center to help balance work and family life.
