'Chronic Congestion' Namyangju Jinjeop Residential District Bypass Road Opens... Travel Time Reduced by 10 Minutes

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 6th that it will prioritize the opening at 4 p.m. on the 7th of a section (5 km) passing through Jinjeop-eup, part of the new construction and expansion project of National Route 47 (9 km) connecting Jinjeop-eup, Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi-do to Naechon-myeon, Pocheon-si.
The section to be opened this time is a bypass road circumventing the section of National Route 47 passing through the Jinjeop-eup urban area, which has frequent signal intersections causing habitual congestion during commuting hours. Since construction began in April 2013, approximately 217 billion KRW has been invested over about eight years to complete a four-lane road.
Connected with the National Route 47 expressway (6.5 km) from Naegok-ri to Janghyeon-ri in Toegyewon-myeon, Namyangju, which opened in December 2017, travel time can be reduced by more than 10 minutes from 30 minutes to 20 minutes. Accordingly, convenience and safety for users of the Jinjeop housing district and surrounding industrial complexes are expected to improve.
Additionally, the remaining section (4 km) from Palya IC to Naechon IC extending to Naechon-myeon, Pocheon-si, is scheduled to be expanded to six lanes and opened by the 31st.

Juhyunjong, Director of the Road Bureau at the Ministry of Land, said, "The newly established expressway bypassing the habitual congestion section is expected to greatly help improve the living conditions of local residents and reduce logistics costs," adding, "We will continue to create a safe and convenient road environment by expanding the interregional arterial road network and improving congested sections."
