Won Hee-ryong: "Lee Jae-myung Comparing the Corruption Investigation Office to 'Uigeumbu' Is Just a 'Diss'"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong rebutted Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myung, who wrote on Facebook, "Why is the People Power Party afraid of the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Agency (PCA)?" by saying, "If the logic is 'If you haven't committed a crime, you wouldn't be afraid of the PCA,' then the current administration must be afraid of the prosecution because they have committed crimes."
On the 6th, Governor Won pointed out on Facebook, "If the prosecution is absolute power as Governor Lee claims, then the PCA, which investigates such prosecution, is super absolute power."
Governor Won said, "The logic of that post is 'King Taejong also investigated the prosecution (Saheonbu) with the PCA (Uigeumbu), which made King Sejong's peaceful reign possible,' 'The prosecution is absolute power, and absolute power is absolutely corrupt,' 'Therefore, the PCA is necessary. If you haven't committed a crime, you wouldn't be afraid of the PCA,'" adding, "The PCA, as super absolute power, would be super absolutely corrupt (according to the logic that absolute power is absolutely corrupt)."
He continued, "If the logic is 'If you haven't committed a crime, you wouldn't be afraid of the PCA,' then the current administration is afraid of the prosecution because they have committed crimes," and added, "I cannot help but laugh at the claim that 'King Taejong also investigated the prosecution (Saheonbu) with the PCA (Uigeumbu), which made King Sejong's peaceful reign possible.'"
Governor Won criticized, "Comparing Uigeumbu, a royal agency that committed many atrocities including torture for absolute royal authority, to the PCA made me wonder if it was a clever way to 'dis' the Blue House and the PCA," and said, "If that was not the intention, I want to say that the mindset of finding the basis of the Republic of Korea's judicial system in the Joseon Dynasty has many problems. It is now the 21st century, and this is the Republic of Korea."

He said, "The reason countries that realized democracy before us do not have a PCA is that creating a stronger power institution to control power institutions creates uncontrollable greater risks," and added, "President Moon Jae-in and the ruling party should be afraid of what would happen if the PCA, the 'One Ring,' falls into the hands of another monster. That monster could be inside the ruling party."
