Kim Jong-in "Is it reasonable to amend the Public Corruption Investigation Office Act again... The administration should know its limits"
[Asia Economy Reporters Lee Ji-eun and Lim Chun-han] Kim Jong-in, Emergency Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, urged cooperation with the opposition party regarding the Democratic Party's amendment of the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office (HCIO) Act, questioning, "Is it reasonable to keep amending it again?"
On the morning of the 4th, during a negotiation meeting held at the Speaker's office, Chairman Kim said, "In the process of launching the HCIO, the ruling party seems to think that since things are not going their way, they need to amend the HCIO Act again. I want to ask whether this is truly reasonable."
He added, "The purpose of including a veto clause in the HCIO Act, which prevents the appointment of the HCIO chief unless two opposition-recommended members agree, was to ensure that everyone reaches a consensus," and questioned, "Is it normal thinking to amend the HCIO Act to remove the veto clause just because decisions are not made easily and to do as you please?"
Chairman Kim emphasized, "The ruling party should not just push forward relying on numbers; if they call the floor leaders of both parties and the two try hard to reach an agreement, a good person can be selected," and added, "Only if the head of a newly launched government agency is a normal person can that agency develop normally."
