Incheon City, 9 Delivery Restaurants Caught for Origin Labeling Violations and Operating Without License

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The Special Judicial Police of Incheon City recently conducted a special crackdown on delivery food establishments and announced on the 3rd that a total of nine businesses were caught for falsely labeling the origin of ingredients as domestic.
The types of violations include five cases of false origin labeling of imported agricultural, livestock, and seafood products, two cases of no origin labeling, one case of operating a livestock product processing business without a license, and one case of storing expired food products.
Restaurant A, specializing in pork, was caught selling U.S. pork and Chinese cabbage kimchi labeled falsely as domestic products to consumers.
Additionally, Restaurant B, specializing in delivery of jokbal (pig's trotters) and bossam (boiled pork wraps), supplied jokbal and bossam to other general restaurants without a livestock product processing business license.
Restaurant C, which sells chicken, pork ribs, and chicken feet, was caught storing raw materials and sauces that were three months past their expiration date.
The city's Special Judicial Police took administrative actions such as imposing fines through the responsible district office and ordered the immediate disposal of the seized food products.
Furthermore, the business owners caught this time will be investigated for violations of the Act on the Labeling of Origin of Agricultural and Fishery Products and the Food Sanitation Act, and will be referred to the prosecution.
Falsely labeling the origin can result in imprisonment of up to seven years or a fine of up to 100 million won, while operating a livestock product processing business without a license can lead to imprisonment of up to ten years or a fine of up to 100 million won.

In response to the increased demand for delivery due to the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the city conducted crackdowns targeting establishments with high order volumes among those registered on delivery apps, businesses that generate complaints, and those that promote the use of mainly domestic ingredients, in order to provide safe food to citizens.
