Seongbuk-gu Registers 2.8 Billion Won Worth of Land Hidden for 100 Years as National Property
Investigation and Registration of 7 Unregistered Roads (2278㎡) Using Spatial Information as State Property
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu has identified hidden land that had not been registered in the cadastral records for about 100 years and registered it as national property, thereby increasing national finances by approximately 2.8 billion KRW.
The land in question was mainly surveyed as tax-exempt public land (roads, old waterways) during the land survey project in the 1910s and was not assigned a lot number. Although it is a small alley-type road used by nearby residents for walking, it had remained unregistered in the cadastral records, causing difficulties in road environment maintenance and the creation of convenience facilities for residents.
The district office thoroughly investigated decades-old documents such as the original cadastral maps, land registers, cadastral maps, registries, land readjustment, and administrative district changes, and together with the Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation conducted field surveys and new registration surveys to newly register a total of 7 lots (2,278㎡) in the cadastral records.
The registered property is valued at about 2.8 billion KRW based on the individual publicly announced land price of the nearby current road. Accurate registration of lot boundaries enables prompt response to various accidents or road repairs, and it is expected that optimal public land utilization plans for residents' convenience can be established in the future.

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, “It was a difficult task to find materials from about 100 years ago one by one, but we were able to complete the project through multiple field surveys and cadastral measurements. We will continue to investigate and discover hidden national and public lands to not only increase national finances but also improve the efficiency of land administration.”
