Geoje-si, Gyeongnam Implements Single-Use Item Restrictions Following Social Distancing Measures
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Geoje City, Gyeongnam, will strengthen regulations on the use of disposable products in food service establishments starting from the 1st, according to the COVID-19 prevention stage.
In February, the use of disposable products was temporarily allowed in service establishments due to the spread of COVID-19, but this measure aims to address the issue of a sharp increase in recyclable waste caused by the prolonged pandemic.
This strengthened regulation, implemented according to the guidelines of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, includes ▲ the principle of using reusable cups during social distancing level 1 and regulation of disposable product use ▲ use of reusable containers but providing disposable products only upon customer request ▲ and allowance of disposable product use depending on the situation at level 3.

A city official stated, “To prevent confusion among citizens, we will have a one-month promotional period from today until the 31st,” and added, “We hope for active participation from citizens to reduce the indiscriminate use of disposable products due to COVID-19, thereby preventing resource waste and environmental pollution and establishing an eco-friendly resource circulation society.”
