Japan Requests Correction of Anti-Dumping Duties on Stainless Steel Bars from Korea... Korea to Appeal
South Korea Partially Loses in WTO Anti-Dumping Tariff Dispute
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] The Japanese government announced on the 1st that it will request South Korea to rectify the anti-dumping duties imposed on Japanese stainless steel bars (SSB), following a ruling that these duties partially violate the World Trade Organization (WTO) agreements.
According to Kyodo News, Hiroshi Kajiyama, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, stated at a press conference on the same day, "We will strongly demand that South Korea accept the WTO's judgment and sincerely and promptly make corrections."
The WTO issued a panel report the previous day regarding Japan's SSB, indicating that some of South Korea's anti-dumping measures and analysis methods violate the WTO Anti-Dumping Agreement.
The South Korean government has imposed anti-dumping duties on imported SSBs from Japan, India, Spain, and others for about 16 years since 2004.
