Jeongeup-si Promotes Makgeolli Specialty Street Development Project
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk Province has taken proactive steps to develop a Makgeolli-specialized street as a tourist attraction and to achieve the goal of nationalizing the local Makgeolli.
The city announced on the 1st that, as one of the major policies for next year to revitalize alleyway commercial districts, it is promoting the "Jeongeup Makgeolli Specialized Street Development Project" as a mid- to long-term plan, focusing on the region's unique food products.
This initiative aims to expand the consumption of local agricultural products, revitalize the declining local commercial districts, and restore the functions of the deteriorated old downtown area.
So far, the city has strengthened public-private cooperation by holding several related meetings and site visits to create a competitive street differentiated from other regions.
Additionally, the feasibility and basic concept study for the Jeongeup Makgeolli Specialized Street was completed at the end of September, and based on this, the project is scheduled to be actively promoted starting next year.
In particular, the plan focuses on creating a sustainable street by strengthening the self-sufficiency of entrepreneurs within the specialized street so that they can settle in the region.
This month, the city plans to enact the "Ordinance on Designation and Support of Specialized Streets for Revitalizing Jeongeup City's Alley Economy" and designate the specialized street after review by the deliberation committee.
Recruitment of entrepreneurs within the designated section will be conducted through a public contest targeting small business owners with self-sufficiency and strong willingness to participate.
New entrepreneurs will be supported to gain competitiveness through a community citizen idea contest, and part of the project costs required for remodeling spaces and renovating signboards, as well as joint brand products, will be provided to enable the sale of various alcoholic beverages produced in Jeongeup.
