Yangsan-si, Gyeongnam, Ranks 1st in Gyeongnam Province in the 2020 Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Evaluation
Korea Institute for Public Administration Announces Evaluation Results of 226 Local Governments Nationwide
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] Yangsan City in Gyeongnam announced on the 1st that it ranked first in comprehensive competitiveness among Gyeongnam provinces in the ‘2020 Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index’ (KLCI) survey conducted by the Korea Institute of Public Administration.
According to the city, this survey evaluated 226 basic local governments nationwide, combining management resources, activities, and performance to assess overall competitiveness, where the city received excellent results.
The city achieved remarkable results in management performance areas such as continuous enrollment in bicycle safety insurance for all citizens, promotion of international safe city certification, atopy and asthma prevention management projects, and selection as an excellent institution by the Ministry of Health and Welfare for health promotion projects.
Mayor Kim Il-kwon said, “The city’s active collection of citizens’ opinions and implementation of various policies have been reflected in this evaluation result,” adding, “We will continue to prioritize citizen participation and develop and promote various new policies.”

Meanwhile, the Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index was developed with two goals: developing local autonomy management indicators and detailed measurement and utilization of regional competitiveness. Since 1996, it has been surveyed and analyzed annually for basic local governments nationwide, with the Korea Institute of Public Administration evaluating local autonomy competitiveness and announcing rankings.
