"EU Discusses Ways to Improve Relations with the US in the Biden Era"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] The European Union (EU) announced on the 30th (local time) that it will begin discussions on ways to improve transatlantic relations between Europe and the United States after President Donald Trump's departure, citing EU officials according to foreign media.
Ambassadors from the 27 EU member countries will review five policy areas where they expect to cooperate with President-elect Joe Biden of the United States.
These include joint advocacy of shared values such as response to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), health, economic recovery stimulus, climate change response, promotion of peace and security, and belief in multilateral rules.
EU member state leaders are also scheduled to discuss transatlantic relations at the summit meeting planned for the 10th to 11th of next month.
Charles Michel, President of the European Council, recently said, "Let's rebuild a strong EU-US alliance," and invited President-elect Biden to a special summit of EU member state leaders scheduled for the first half of next year.
