[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is implementing a 'Winter Snow Removal Plan' to minimize residents' inconvenience caused by sudden winter snowfall and heavy snow and to create a safe walking and road environment.
The district has designated the snow removal period from November 15 to March 15 of the following year and operates the Gangdong-gu Snow Removal Headquarters, consisting of 13 teams.
The headquarters will oversee and control snow removal operations and closely cooperate with related organizations such as Gangdong Police Station, Gangdong Fire Station, and the 52nd Division of the military to carry out phased snow removal activities according to the amount of snowfall.
Prior to this, the district conducted pre-inspections of 54 snow removal equipment units, including snowplows and spreaders, across 8 types of equipment, and secured over 1,400 tons of snow removal materials such as calcium chloride and eco-friendly certified de-icing agents to prepare for emergency recovery in case of heavy snowfall.
Additionally, snow removal boxes and free snow removal tool boxes were installed at 278 vulnerable points including 18 main and secondary arterial roads (67.85 km), mountain passes, pedestrian overpasses, and intersections. The district also established 152 calcium chloride storage houses so that any resident can use snow removal tools and calcium chloride to clear snow.
Furthermore, a total of 32 remote automatic liquid spraying devices were installed in steep sections such as Hanyeong Middle School and Cheonil Elementary School intersection. Road conditions in these areas can be monitored in real-time via CCTV, and during snowfall, brine can be sprayed remotely for rapid initial response.
Moreover, the district plans to strengthen publicity for residents' voluntary snow removal activities by organizing support personnel composed of residents such as the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group, professional organizations, the Community Leaders Association, and volunteers, promoting the practice of 'clearing snow in front of my house and my store.'
