Fair Trade Commission Discusses Online Platform Law Enforcement at OECD Competition Committee
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) announced on the 30th that it will attend the regular meeting of the Competition Committee of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Global Competition Forum, held via non-face-to-face meetings until the 10th of next month.
The regular meeting of the Competition Committee is a gathering of delegations from competition authorities of 37 member countries to discuss global issues and challenges related to competition law. Korea will participate with Kim Hyung-bae, a standing commissioner, as the chief representative.
The Global Competition Forum is an event that shares the outcomes of the Policy Committee discussions with non-OECD member countries, with over 100 countries attending.
According to the KFTC, the upcoming regular meeting of the Competition Committee will focus intensively on digital and platform-related topics such as the digital advertising market and competition in digital markets.
The Global Competition Forum will cover topics including economic analysis in mergers and acquisitions and ways competition authorities utilize market investigations.
The KFTC plans to introduce cases where it sanctioned Naver for abuse of market dominance and Delivery Hero (Yogiyo) for abuse of bargaining position, as well as share recent laws and systems it is promoting, such as the Online Platform Fairness Act.
Additionally, the KFTC will present applicable economic analysis methods and cases for merger reviews and share experiences in identifying and improving regulations that restrict competition.

A KFTC official stated, "Through attending this meeting, we will grasp overseas competition policies and law enforcement trends in the digital and platform sectors to refer to institutional improvements and law enforcement activities," adding, "We also plan to provide information on international competition law enforcement trends to ensure that Korean companies operating abroad do not suffer disadvantages."
