Hwasun-gun Distributes 'Public Interest Direct Payments' to 7,748 Farms
[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Young-gyun] Jeollanam-do Hwasun-gun (Governor Gu Chung-gon) announced on the 26th that it plans to make the first payment of 13.2776 billion KRW to 7,748 households by the end of this month as the 2020 Public Interest Direct Payment for income stabilization of rice and field crop farmers.
Some farmers classified for reduction due to violation of the Public Interest Direct Payment compliance requirements will submit opinions and undergo verification procedures by the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service, with payments scheduled for mid-next month.
The Public Interest Direct Payment is a subsidy that supports farmers to engage in public interest activities such as food safety, environmental conservation, and rural maintenance through agricultural activities.
The county has integrated and reorganized subsidies previously paid separately as rice, field, and disadvantaged condition direct payments into the Public Interest Direct Payment starting this year.
In particular, a small-scale farm direct payment was newly established in the reorganized Public Interest Direct Payment to strengthen support for small farmers, providing a fixed amount of 1.2 million KRW if they cultivate between 0.1 and 0.5 hectares and meet certain requirements such as income and farming experience.
Accordingly, it is expected to alleviate income disparities between medium-large scale farms and small farms.
Other farmers will receive differential support according to the support unit price by cultivation area segment.
