Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-koo Foundation Supports Quarantine and Living Kits for Elderly Living Alone
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] The Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Foundation announced on the 26th that it will support more than 5,000 quarantine and daily necessities kits for elderly people living alone nationwide who are struggling due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
On the 19th, the Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Foundation held an 'OnDream Hope Kit' delivery ceremony at the Gangseo-gu Bongjesan Senior Welfare Center located in Gangseo-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by comedians Kim Dae-hee, Oh Nami, Park Jin-ho, and Park So-young, who are ambassadors for the international relief and development NGO Plan Korea, and they delivered sharing kits non-face-to-face, showing interest and support for isolated neighbors, the elderly living alone.
In this project, the Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Foundation is responsible for planning and funding the components of the quarantine and daily necessities kits, while the international relief and development NGO Plan Korea organizes entrusted delivery personnel and handles kit delivery and promotion. The foundation and Plan Korea completed the first round of support by providing quarantine masks to about 4,000 entrusted delivery personnel nationwide affiliated with the Korea Post Logistics Support Group last October.
In this second round of support, the Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Foundation plans to provide more than 5,000 'OnDream Hope Sharing Kits' through the Comprehensive Support Center for Elderly People Living Alone by the end of November. The kits are filled with quarantine supplies consisting of F94 masks, portable disinfectants, and antibacterial wet wipes, as well as food items including instant rice and ready meals. Notably, the portable disinfectant included in the quarantine supplies was produced by Jeju Clean Industry, a social enterprise selected as an 'H-OnDream Fellow' by the foundation, adding special significance.
Kim Hyun-mi, director of the Comprehensive Support Center for Elderly People Living Alone, said, "In the current situation where COVID-19 cases are rapidly increasing, elderly people living alone, a vulnerable group, are experiencing more severe social isolation than any other generation. We are grateful to the Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Foundation for participating in this support, and we ask for continued attention to vulnerable elderly people in the future."
Kwon Oh-gyu, chairman of the Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-Koo Foundation, said, "Through this project, we are pleased to deliver a message of encouragement by supporting quarantine and daily necessities kits for elderly people living alone who are in the blind spots of social welfare, as well as providing KF94 masks for logistics delivery workers of the Korea Post Logistics Support Group, the unsung heroes of COVID-19 quarantine, for use in their delivery work."
