Muan-gun Applies for Contest to Establish Octopus Spawning and Habitat Site
5 Billion KRW Support Over 5 Years Starting from 2021 Upon Contest Selection
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Muan County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) announced on the 23rd that it will apply for the 2021 Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Fisheries Resource Spawning and Habitat Creation Project.
The Fisheries Resource Spawning and Habitat Creation Project is a project to establish sustainable fisheries resource supply bases through ecosystem foundation and systematic management of major fish species by sea area.
This year, the county selected octopus as the target species, signed a consignment and delegation agreement with the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency Namhae Headquarters, completed the basic plan establishment service, and prepared detailed annual project implementation plans such as tidal flat spawning ground creation, octopus mating and purchase release, and octopus feed resource creation.
If selected for the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries public project, a total project cost of 5 billion KRW will be invested over five years from 2021 to 2025, with 1 billion KRW each year.

A county official said, "Through the octopus spawning and habitat creation project, we will simultaneously implement octopus spawning ground creation and octopus release over the next five years to accelerate the recovery of Muan octopus resources."
