"Spreading AI Donation Culture" SKT and UNICEF Korea Committee Join Hands
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] SK Telecom has signed a business agreement with the UNICEF Korea Committee to promote a donation culture based on ICT.
According to SK Telecom on the 23rd, through this collaboration, the two companies will launch and begin full-scale operation of a new concept donation program called ‘AI GiveU,’ developed jointly since March, which utilizes an artificial intelligence speaker. ‘AI GiveU’ is a program that allows convenient donations through the AI speaker ‘NUGU.’
When users say the wake word “Aria” for NUGU and say, “Donate to UNICEF through GiveU,” they receive a response asking, “Would you like to donate 3,000 won?” along with a donation guide URL sent via text message. With 5G era technology, donations can now be made with just a few words in conversation with the AI speaker.
Especially as offline fundraising activities and donation events have been reduced due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, it is expected that the donation process ‘AI GiveU,’ which can be easily accessed from home, will help expand fundraising for children around the world in need of assistance.
Through ‘AI GiveU,’ donations of 3,000 won can be made at a time, and anyone can participate as long as they have the AI speaker ‘NUGU,’ regardless of their telecommunications provider. The UNICEF Korea Committee uses the collected funds for humanitarian projects such as nutrition, health, water sanitation, and education for children worldwide.
The two parties will also analyze donation patterns of ‘AI GiveU’ users through big data to explore additional ways to activate the donation culture. Furthermore, they plan to introduce this as an excellent cooperation case created by NGOs and private companies to UNICEF committees in various countries and develop it into a global donation program.
