[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] On the 22nd, Lee Nak-yeon, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, commemorated the 5th anniversary of the passing of the late former President Kim Young-sam, calling him “the person who laid the foundation of democracy.”
Through Facebook on the same day, Leader Lee said, “He was the one who ended the military government and launched the civilian government with the belief-driven struggle that 'even if you twist a chicken's neck, dawn will come.'”
He emphasized, “Upon taking office as president, he carried out a series of fiery reforms such as the disbandment of Hanahoe, disclosure of high-ranking officials' assets, and implementation of the real-name financial system, laying the foundation of our democracy. He was a giant mountain like his pen name Geosan (巨山).”
