Trump Requests Additional Recount in Georgia State
[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] AP News reported on the 21st (local time) that U.S. President Donald Trump requested an additional recount in Georgia, which certified the victory of President-elect Joe Biden after a manual recount in the presidential election.
President Trump's legal team issued a statement that day saying, "We have submitted a recount request to Georgia," and "We continue to demand an honest recount."
They added, "Without a signature verification process, the recount will be nothing more than a fake, just like the previous count," arguing that the recount must include a 'signature verification process.'
According to state law in Georgia, if the margin is within 0.5 percentage points, the loser can request a recount.
When the initial machine count showed Biden narrowly winning, the state authorities began a manual recount of about 5 million ballots on the 13th to dispel controversy.
As a result, President-elect Biden led President Trump by 12,670 votes (0.25 percentage points), and the Republican governor officially confirmed this the day before.
However, this recount was conducted according to state regulations that require a manual recount to verify the accuracy of the machine count when the vote margin is small, and it was not recognized as a recount requested by the loser.
