[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Although a large number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) occurred at a large teacher employment exam academy in Noryangjin, Dongjak-gu, Seoul, the secondary teacher employment exam scheduled for the 21st will proceed as planned.
The Ministry of Education announced on the 20th that this was agreed upon through an emergency meeting between metropolitan and provincial offices of education chaired by Park Baek-beom, Deputy Minister of Education.
A total of 60,233 candidates are expected to take the secondary teacher employment exam at 110 test sites nationwide, with 3,076 exam rooms.
Tomorrow's exam will be conducted as scheduled while strictly adhering to quarantine guidelines. Information on users of the Noryangjin academy will be shared with health centers and education offices to guide them to undergo COVID-19 testing, and test results will also be promptly shared with education offices and examinees.
The Ministry of Education has previously announced that confirmed COVID-19 cases will not be allowed to take the employment exam.
Those subject to self-quarantine related to the Noryangjin academy will be confirmed negative on-site and will take the exam at a separate test site. The Ministry of Education anticipates an increase in self-quarantine subjects and is expanding additional test sites, assigning supervisors, and distributing quarantine supplies.
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, as of 5 p.m. on the day, 38 examinees preparing for the physical education teacher employment exam at the Noryangjin employment exam academy tested positive for COVID-19. Approximately 600 people preparing for the exam in the same building are also undergoing COVID-19 diagnostic tests.
