Changwon Mayor Heo Seong-mu Celebrates Launch of Korea Institute of Materials, Marking a Major Turning Point in the New Manufacturing Era

Mayor Heo Seong-mu stated, "On behalf of the 1.04 million citizens of Changwon, I sincerely welcome the launch of the Korea Institute of Materials Science," reflecting on the countless trips between Changwon and Seoul over the past two and a half years spent striving for the institute's elevation.

Meanwhile, the Institute of Materials Science began in 1976 as the Korea Institute of Machinery and Metals, evolved through the Changwon branch of the Korea Institute of Machinery and the affiliated Materials Research Laboratory, and its elevation to an institute was confirmed last April when the related law was passed in the National Assembly.
