The Korea Racing Authority Busan-Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters started the "Visiting Horse Industry Career Experience" program on the 13th at Sungjin Elementary School in Miryang, Gyeongnam, targeting small schools in rural fishing and farming villages.
The "Visiting Riding Class," designed to teach children the value of life through communication with horses and to support students' physical and emotional development, was first launched in 2009 at the Busan-Gyeongnam Racing Park.
The program is a representative social contribution project of the Busan-Gyeongnam Headquarters, loved by local residents, with over 1,000 participants just last year.
This year, in addition to the riding classes, the program includes experiences of major jobs related to the horse industry. It was prepared so that students can enjoy various hands-on activities. The experience is conducted targeting rural fishing and farming village schools where social participation opportunities have decreased due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, contributing to the creation of social value in the region.
The first career experience held at Sungjin Elementary School in Miryang was attended by 24 students, including kindergarteners.
The diverse experiences included △a farrier experience where students examined the pony's hooves and nailed horseshoes onto hoof models △a veterinarian experience measuring the horse's body temperature and listening to the horse's heartbeat with a stethoscope △a riding class where students fed the horses and tried horseback riding, all of which were very popular among the students.
The Busan-Gyeongnam Headquarters plans to select additional schools wishing to participate in the experience program and continue it throughout the year, adjusting the schedule according to the COVID-19 situation.
