'Maponaru Saeujeot Online Market' Operation Extended Until the 30th
37 Renowned Production Sites Nationwide Including Ganggyeong, Gwangcheon, Boryeong, Buan, and Sinan Participate... Extended Sales Period Expected Until Early December During Kimjang Season, Continued Demand for Saeujeot... High Quality and Over 15% Lower Prices Popular Among Housewives
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) is extending the operation period of the Mapo-naru Saeujeot online marketplace from the original 13 days to 30 days.
The district decided to operate the 'Online Saeujeot Sales Market' after receiving numerous requests from residents wishing to purchase saeujeot as usual ahead of the kimchi-making season in October.
Since then, 37 sales outlets from famous saeujeot production areas nationwide, including Gang-gyeong, Gwangcheon, Boryeong, Buan, and Sinan, have been selected to operate the online marketplace starting from October 19.
This extension of the sales period is a measure in response to the expectation that the kimchi-making season in Seoul and the metropolitan area will continue until early December.
With the extension, the demand for saeujeot from housewives who have not yet made kimchi is also expected to continue.
For several years, the quality of products at the Mapo-naru Saeujeot marketplace has been well recognized as excellent. The sales prices are also more than 15% cheaper than market prices. A service that offers free delivery for purchases above a certain amount is also in place.
Citizens wishing to purchase saeujeot can access the sales outlets’ websites by visiting the 'Mapo-gu Office website' saeujeot marketplace bulletin board, check the products directly, and place orders online or by phone.
Additionally, the district has produced extra sales product leaflets for elderly residents who find online purchases difficult and is distributing them to 16 community service centers in Mapo-gu for promotion.
Meanwhile, the Mapo-naru Saeujeot marketplace was converted online after the originally scheduled Mapo-naru Saeujeot Festival in October was canceled due to the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The saeujeot market, held annually during the festival period at the Peace Plaza in World Cup Park, is famous as a unique Seoul market that has repeatedly attracted crowds of over hundreds of thousands of people each year.
