According to Gimcheon City on the 19th, Son Myeong-su, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, who attended the opening ceremony of the Advanced Automobile Inspection Research Center on the 18th, visited Gimcheon Station and promised, "After inspecting the site today, I agree with the expansion and remodeling of the aging Gimcheon Station, and we will review the possibility of promoting it together with the Southern Inland Railway construction project."
Vice Minister Son’s visit to Gimcheon Station on that day was made following the Advanced Automobile Inspection Research Center event, at the recommendation of Mayor Kim Chung-seop of Gimcheon and National Assembly member Song Eon-seok.
The Southern Inland Railway construction project was selected as a project exempt from preliminary feasibility study in January last year, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is currently conducting a basic plan establishment service. In this regard, Gyeongbuk Province and Gimcheon City have continuously urged for the inclusion of Gimcheon Station’s expansion and remodeling plan in the 'Basic Plan for the Southern Inland Railway (Gimcheon-Geoje) Construction Project.'
Mayor Kim Chung-seop and National Assembly member Song Eon-seok emphasized, "Gimcheon Station is essential not only for the Southern Inland Railway but also as a central station for the Central Inland and Gimcheon-Jeonju east-west transversal railways, so the expansion and remodeling project of the station is absolutely necessary."
