[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Donald Trump, the U.S. president defeated in the upcoming presidential election, has abruptly dismissed the top election security official. It is evaluated that Trump fell out of favor due to statements denying any basis for claims that the election results were altered.
On the 17th (local time), President Trump announced the dismissal of Christopher Krebs, Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). President Trump said, "Director Krebs' recent remarks regarding the security of the U.S. presidential election were very inaccurate," adding, "In this election, there were instances of deceased individuals voting, denial of access to polling stations for election observers, and malfunctions in vote-counting machines."
Director Krebs has led CISA, which was established after the 2016 presidential election amid allegations of Russian interference. CISA was responsible for supplying voting equipment and overseeing cybersecurity for the election in cooperation with state governments and private companies.
After the election, CISA actively addressed suspicions related to the election. They stated that claims such as deceased individuals voting or changes in election results were not true.
Despite raising allegations of election fraud by President Trump, CISA issued a statement declaring that this election was the most secure in American history.
